About

My Journey

I remember sitting with my father one day discussing his career. We calculated he had spent 45 years of his working life in various cast iron foundries in West Yorkshire.  Starting as a moulder in 1946 working for English Electric, completing his last 19 years as a Foundry Foreman at RMI Foundry in Bingley.

As my fathers’ career came to an end, mine began, as I started my first job in 1986 working in the Aerospace Industry in a Materials Testing Laboratory at A E Turbine Components Ltd (now AETC Ltd).  With exacting quality standards and complex alloys and testing, this was the best start I could have hoped for.

Further roles in aluminium die casting, dimensional calibration, quality assurance, and materials testing broadened my experience.

Today, 39 years later, I am a results-oriented professional with a passion for metallurgy and a commitment to making a difference. Consultant metallurgist and trainer at Barkermet, I bring a practical, hands-on approach to metallurgy and quality assurance. My career has been built on a foundation of technical expertise, problem-solving, and a commitment to delivering results. I’m not just about theory; I’m about making things work in the real world. If you’re looking for someone who can bring technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a practical approach to your organisation, I’d love to connect.
